Katherine Brown’s emotions were so intense the day she married Brett Mach that some people in attendance thought she was going to pass out before the ceremony concluded. “I was so excited that I was practically bouncing,” recalls Katherine, a marketing consultant. The bride had good reason to be excited—she was marrying her best friend. She and Brett have been inseparable since they met as freshmen at Trinity University in San Antonio. Exactly four years later, they went on their first date.

Early in their relationship, Katherine and Brett decided not to talk about marriage until Brett finished law school. The day after he took his state bar exam, Brett told Katherine he wanted to give her a gift to thank her for her support. During dinner at their favorite chicken-fried steak and pie spot, Brett gave Katherine an engraved Tiffany & Co. bracelet. One side said, “Marry,” the other said, “me.” “She cried, I cried, and eventually she said, ‘Yes,’” Brett says. “Then we had pie.” The couple selected Briscoe Manor as the site for their 290-guest wedding, and, on April 28, they exchanged their vows at the spectacular 50-acre estate. The bride wore an Alvina Valenta gown from I Do, I Do, and shoes from Brucette’s Shoes. Brett and his groomsmen wore tuxedos from Al’s Formal Wear.

Before gathering in Briscoe Manor’s Crofton Ballroom for the reception, guests relaxed during an outdoor cocktail hour featuring music from the Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir. Katherine, who had originally wanted a fall wedding, selected a wedding palette of dark teal, chocolate, champagne and coral. “I looked to Lisa at Floral Impression to help pull the fall-type colors into a spring look, and she blew us away,” Katherine says.

At the reception, guests sat at a mix of long royal tables and round tables decorated in chocolate and champagne linens. Lighting by Bright Star Productions illuminated decor and luxurious lounge furniture from Darryl & Company.

Rachel Plunkett of Behind the Bash Catering and Events handled the food, and Cakes by Gina provided the wedding cakes.
