Weekly Wedding Buzz 26

Wedding Buzz from Weddings in Houston

We’re still abuzz about the recent Before You Say … “I Do!” bridal soiree—and if you were there, we bet you are, too. The rest of you, please hold tight! We’ll let you feast your eyes on the festivities next week. Cross our hearts.

For now, there’s plenty in the Buzz to keep you busy. This week, we’ve got the dish on Houston caterers, an invitation to style from stationery stars Tad and Heather Griffin of Tad + Faboo, back-baring wedding wear, and the truly spectacular Real Wedding of Karishma Kanak Amin and Samir Ishwar Naran. Plus, check out our profile of celebrated Houston wedding photographer Ken Osborne!

And when you’re done buzzing through the Buzz, take a moment to tell us what you think by emailing info@weddingsinhouston.com. Happy planning, Houston bride!

A perfect table centerpiece needs to awe guests without obstructing views and inspire conversation without impeding it. That’s a lot to ask of a flower arrangement.

Fortunately, as you’ll find in this week’s feature story, Houston’s finest floral designers are up to the task—and then some.

Tad + Faboo

Houston couple Tad and Heather Griffin are experts on invites, and specialists in letterpress. Plus, they’ve got style for miles!

Check out our blog post on their incredibly hip paperie and stationery studio Tad + Faboo, and get cracking on that guest list!

Engaged at the Taj Mahal, married at the InterContinental Hotel, assisted by Mandap Creations (conveniently owned by the bride’s parents!) and Jo Ann Schwartz-Woodward of Schwartz & Woodward—Karishma Kanak Amin and Samir Ishwar Naran wed in opulent style, joined by 500 of their nearest and dearest. Click here to sneak a peak at the couple’s “winter wonderland” affair.

They may not remember what they wore, where they sat or what the DJ played, but know this, Houston bride: They WILL remember what they ate. So make sure those memories are sweet—and savory, and spicy, and simply delicious. Houston’s finest off-premise caterers can help you select the perfect menu and service style to fit your wedding’s mood, guest group and budget. They can also cater to just about any special food requests, including vegetarian, Kosher, Halal, gluten-free, locally sourced—you name it!

Don’t disappoint your guests with ho-hum hors d’oeuvre or sloppy stations. Visit our caterer listings for details on Houston’s most divine culinary talents.

Ken Osborne, owner
Osborne Photography

Working out of his extraordinary Simonton studio and art gallery, veteran Houston wedding photographer Ken Osborne is among the very best in the business. Sure, he offers traditional photography services—not to mention antique and contemporary furniture, 12-foot-high ceilings, acres of landscaped grounds and what he estimates to be “probably 1,000 props” at his circa-1926 studio—but he also keeps on the cutting edge of photo technology.

These days, he says, no technology is hotter than digital photo albums, which wedding clients, and their friends and family, can view and share on their computers. “And they look so good on iPhones, it’s incredible,” he adds. As for you, Houston bride, whether you’re looking for digital or film, portrait or photojournalistic style, whatever you do, “Hire experience,” advises Osborne, who has been shooting weddings for nearly 32 years.

And when it comes to photographers, he adds, less is more. “I was at one wedding where they had five photographers. That creates so many problems—people are running around all night ducking!” Instead, opt for one really good photo pro and you’ll get “the best possible wedding photos.”

Choli

Processionals, recessionals, vow-takings, cake-cuttings—there are so many opportunities for a bride’s back to be front-and-center.

Fortunately, there are so many wedding-attire options that beautifully show off that graceful nape and those sleek shoulder blades. We absolutely adore the “Jemma” gown from Houston favorite Amsale’s spring 2010 collection, which features a flattering halter bodice in front and an elegantly open back. For something a little more Hollywood screen siren, Amy Michelson does amazing things with crossed straps, plunging drape and other fabulous back treatments.

But perhaps the best in back designs are to be found in contemporary wedding Cholis, which feature spaghetti-strap, corset and asymmetrical styles aplenty.
